Performing Groups

Starlite has a total of 5 performing groups. Some of these groups are into their 5th generations! These groups are the Starlite perspective of dancing as a whole. From Mambo / Salsa, Hip Hop, & Pure Dancing these groups work very hard to perfect the art and give a good show!

The Heartbreak Boyz

Back In 1999, David returned from an event saying that he needs a team that would represent him and the Starlite Dance Studio. He always liked the idea of the boy bands and decided to create a dance team that was made up of teenage boys. Six (6) boys were picked and David started working with them. He introduced them to the dance world in March of 2000. From the beginning, the Heartbreak Boyz were a big hit, the crowd loved them. David instilled in them a code of behavior that would carry to this day. He showed them how to behave and act in front of an all-adult crowd. They were the "teen gentlemen" of Mambo. Those original boys have moved on to become productive citizens and are as much as a positive influence to others as David was to them.

The Sweethearts

After the Heartbreak Boyz’ tour to Japan, David decided to create another routine that the boys can do with the Japanese ladies at the West Coast Salsa Congress. On the plan coming back home he had picked the six (6) girls that will rehearse with the boys. The girls were not going to be a team but since things were looking good during the rehearsal David decided to make them a team and called them the sweethearts. The Sweethearts set a mark of their own as a performance group. Their clean and synchronized styling allows them the opportunity to perform with adult groups and still fit in. The female equivalents of the Heartbreak Boyz, the Sweethearts are comprised of teenage girls. They have represented Starlite well in many events.

Fuerza Gigante Fuerza

Gigante was originally the class that competed at certain events. When a few people moved on, David decided to change the name of the class and give them a fresh start. Edwin Rivera, an original member of the class gave them name "Giant Force" which translates into "Fuerza Gigante". Fuerza Gigante became the 5th team representing the Starlite Dance Studio.

The Jr. Heartbreak Boyz

During one of the 5th Avenue Puerto Rican parades, David saw this young boy rocking the routine. This boy was Timothy Lanier. David moved him from the middle of the pack and placed him in front and there he was the hit of the parade. That’s when David had the idea of creating a group of younger dancers. Since he had already created the Heartbreak Boyz, he decided to call them the Jr. Heartbreak Boyz. During the parade he picked all the young boys that would eventually become the Jr. Heartbreak Boyz. To introduce them to the dance world, David created a routine where the older Heartbreak Boyz would battle the

The Baby Sweethearts

The Baby Sweethearts were created as a spot for the younger female dancers that were watching the Sweethearts shine. A routine was created that would bring them into the scene. Again, they were introduced in a battle number with the Sweethearts. From the beginning Erika Luquis wanted to be a part of the team and therefore she became their mentor and leader. These young ladies are great together and do a great job of representing the Starlite Dance Studio.
